about me & contact
In my past I have worked as a BBC TV sound engineer in London and later worked as a film editor, sound recordist and editor in independent cinema for the British Film Institute and Arts Council England and broadcast TV. Since I have lived in East Anglia I have worked as a private and school piano-teacher and accompanist.
My first love was so-called classical music and I always wanted to be a composer. I have actually done a little composing but know when I am beaten when I hear the music of composers I admire.
However, the main talent I was born with was drawing and after working for the BBC I took a Foundation Course and then a Graphics Dip AD at the London College of Printing. By now moving pictures were in my blood and I took a post-graduate film-making degree at the Royal College of Art. After that I worked with colleagues in the Kuleshov 2 Film Group.
Later, now living in Norfolk, I have written musical plays for local consumption and collaborated with landscape historian John Dean on a film-map about our region of the Waveney Valley called Lives and Landscape.
In recent years I overcame my yearning for musical composition by producing photographic and painterly art work that I feel inhabit some of the spaces where music belongs.
The work on show at present on this website has been exhibited for several months
during this summer at the Raveningham Centre in Norfolk and some of it is now on display at the Old Granary Studio concert hall in Maypole Green near Beccles.
( Many thanks to Liz, Mal and Sarah Cannell - Jill and Andrew Giller for getting my work onto their walls )
I am working at and hoping to get more exhibitions in our region and beyond in the near future.
