My visual work makes connections with musical ways of thinking and presentation. Whilst I trust that my pieces are attractive from a distance my main aim is to invite the viewer to look very closely. In a musical performance we take a journey through different textures, harmonies, melodic elements and counterpoint. Particularly in my photographically derived work, which I call Strip Framing, I wish to give the viewer such quasi-musical experiences.

As a classical musician I am  fascinated by musical notation and love musical scores which show the shapes of the music in a visually parallel way. Therefore the nature of scores sometimes influences my images.

My paint-works works are attempting to match music in its chromatic aspects. They are much more composed and are hopefully using paint elements materially much like a composer uses notes and instrumental colour.

The files on this site generally have up to ten times less memory that the printed ones and so are much more degraded in close-up. They are lower quality to discourage uploading of my images.

PLEASE DON'T COPY MY IMAGES - THANK YOU!

MANY OF MY WORKS ARE FOR SALE

When they are not the word SOLD will be displayed below the image information.
